NEWPORT NEWS — Locals will have another grocery store option in the near future.
Piggly Wiggly is scheduled to open on June 19 at the former site of Jim’s Local Market in Brooks Crossing, according to a news release from the city of Newport News.
Jim’s Local Market closed in January.
Harrell and Harrell Inc. will operate the Piggly Wiggly, according to the news release. There is also a Piggly Wiggly in Norfolk.
Found primarily in the south, the first Piggly Wiggly store opened in 1916 in Memphis.
There are more than 530 Piggly Wiggly stores in 17 states, according to the store’s website.
