Electric Scooter Driver Injured in Crash

JAMES CITY COUNTY – At approximately 8:52 p.m. on May 5, James City County Police responded to a crash with injuries at the intersection of Pocahontas Trail and Route 199 involving a pickup truck and an electric scooter.

Preliminary investigation by the James City County Police Crash Team indicates that the scooter was traveling improperly in the left lane of Pocahontas Trail, without lights or reflectors, as it passed Route 199. The scooter was struck by a pickup truck that was making a legal left turn onto Route 199.

The driver of the electric scooter, a 24-year-old James City County man, who was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, is currently in stable condition at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News. The male driver of the pickup truck, 44, is from York County.

The incident remains under investigation, and further details will be released as they become available.
