No Kings Rally in Williamsburg Draws Thousands to Monticello Ave Courthouse Saturday

WILLIAMSBURG— On Saturday, March 28, over 6,000 protesters gathered at the Monticello Ave. courthouse in support of the No Kings rally.

Speakers at the event included Herb Jones, Retired U.S. Army Colonel and combat veteran, Former Treasurer of New Kent County, Board Chair of the Williamsburg-James City County Community Action Agency, and Member of the Disabled American Veterans, Janeen Richards, pharmacist and Founding Member of Indivisible Essex, Stan Scott, retired Army Armor NCO with graduate degrees in Political Science, Public Policy, and International Relations and co-host of the Two Crusty Old Combat Soldiers with a Microphone podcast, Sharon Powell, Immigration Attorney, Jonathan Westmoreland, co-founder of the nonprofit Hagamos Vaca, Jason Moulenbelt, U.S. Marine Veteran and Professor of Philosophy, and Charles Gates, former Marine, President of the YJCW NAACP, Member of the WJCC-CAA Williamsburg Citizens Advisory Committee, the JCC Extension Community Council, Toastmasters International and life-long community activist.

The event was put on jointly by WJCC Indivisible and Indivisible Essex.

Supporters gathered peacefully on the lawn at the James City County Courthouse and the outskirts of the New Town development with signs and American flags, in support of the national No Kings movement.

According to the official No Kings website, the movement is a nationwide, peaceful, and nonviolent protest movement in the U.S. opposing what organizers describe as the authoritarian, king-like actions of the Trump administration. It focuses on defending democratic principles, protesting policies on immigration and war, and affirming that power belongs to the people.

The national No Kings movement was started in June 2025 and has hosted hundreds of protests around the nation.
