WILLIAMSBURG — The James City County Police Department took part in one of its favorite traditions Dec. 13: Shop with a Cop.
The department partners with James City County Social Services each holiday season to select children who get the opportunity to shop with a police officer. This year, 17 children received the opportunity to participate.
Saturday, the Target store on Monticello Avenue was overrun with holiday spirit as the event got underway. To add more excitement, the police also got in touch with Santa, who took time away from the North Pole to visit with the officers and kids.
“We couldn’t do this without the dedication of our officers, professional staff, and James City County Social Services. Their time and energy created lasting memories for all of us. Small acts of kindness can leave a lifelong impact, and this event is a beautiful reminder of how powerful community connections can be,” a department representative said.
During the event, officers take kids around the store to buy Christmas presents for their families. Children are also urged to pick out a winter coat during the experience.
The department added that in addition to the support from Target, Wendy’s on Monticello provided lunch for everyone, and Busch Gardens Williamsburg also donated tickets to Christmas Town, so families could keep the holiday spirit going.
