
JAMES CITY COUNTY — James City County is alerting residents that the Virginia Department of Social Services is currently accepting applications for fuel assistance until Nov. 14.
To qualify for fuel assistance, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a resident of the locality where the application is submitted
- Have a responsibility for heating or cooling expenses in the household
- Have a monthly gross income that does not exceed the program’s established income limits
According to the announcement, the maximum gross monthly income for a one-person household must not exceed $1,956 for a household of four, the maximum gross monthly income is $4,018.
Families and individuals can apply through their local department of social services office. James City County Social Services is located at 5249 Olde Towne Road. To apply online or to check eligibility for services, visit the CommonHelp website at commonhelp.
The county notes assistance is subject to the availability of funds.
The Energy Assistance Program, funded by the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program federal block grant, provides support to states to assist low-income households in meeting their home energy needs such as electricity, natural and liquid propane gas, oil, kerosene, coal and wood. Assistance may also be available for delivery and installation charges as well as connection or re-connection fees.
