WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Area Transit Authority recently announced its participation in Try Transit Week, taking place Sept. 15–21.
To mark the occasion, WATA will offer free fares on all routes throughout the week, encouraging residents, workers, students and visitors to experience the benefits of public transportation.
“Try Transit Week’s goal is to encourage new riders and promote our safe, convenient and reliable service,” said Matthew Scalia, Executive Director of WATA. “See firsthand how public transportation benefits our community.”
According to WATA, public transportation provides many benefits that extend beyond daily travel: Every $1 invested in public transit generates $4 in economic benefits. Transit also helps reduce thousands of metric tons of CO2 emissions, and transit systems like WATA connect people to jobs, education, healthcare and community activities.
To further engage riders, WATA will host pop-up information tables at the Williamsburg Transportation Center, complete with giveaways on Sept. 16 and Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Residents and visitors can easily plan their trips using the Transit app, available for free download. The app provides real-time route information, schedules and mobile ticketing.
WATA is encouraging the Greater Williamsburg community to take advantage of the system during Try Transit Week and discover how public transportation is safe, convenient and reliable. For more information, please visit gowata.org.
