WILLIAMSBURG — The Democracy Dash 10K is returning to Jamestown Island on Saturday, Sept. 27, and organizers are promising an extraordinary race through one of America’s most storied landscapes.
Democracy Dash 10K participants will have the opportunity to enjoy a picturesque course that meanders through the historically significant Jamestown Island, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue, according to The Jamestown Rediscovery Foundation.
The Democracy Dash 10K supports the foundation, the private nonprofit that preserves and shares the history of Jamestown, and the Save Jamestown campaign, which aims to protect the nation’s birthplace from the damaging effects of rising sea levels.
Event highlights include a historic route alongside the beauty and significance of Jamestown Island as participants run through picturesque landscapes that have witnessed centuries of history. The course is PR (personal-record) fast and totally flat. Outside of the causeway section at the start, it is a wooded, shaded, scenic route with wetlands crossings on wooden bridges, unsurpassed in historical beauty, according to the foundation..
Pre- and post-race events are also planned, and participants can explore the site of James Fort, learn about Jamestown history, and enjoy refreshments and Billsburg Brewery craft beer at the Dale House patio overlooking the scenic James River.
Every participant will also receive a finisher medal. Registration is available via RunSignUp.com. For more information about the Democracy Dash, please visit historicjamestowne.org.
