Labor Day Closures Around the Historic Triangle

HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Monday is Labor Day. Here is how the federal holiday impacts local offices and services.

James City County

James City County said offices, facilities, services and libraries will observe the following schedule for the Sept. 1 Labor Day holiday:

County Offices:
Closed

James City County Recreation Center and Abram Frink Jr. Community Center:
Closed

Parks:
All County parks are open year-round.

Park Stores and Guest Services Offices:
Open

Jolly Pond Road, Tewning Road and Toano Convenience Centers:
Closed

Garbage Transfer Station:
Closed

Curbside Recycling:
Monday’s recycling will be picked up on Tuesday, Tuesday’s will be picked up on Wednesday, etc.

Libraries:
Closed Aug. 31 and Sept. 1

Williamsburg

The City of Williamsburg will observe Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 1. All City offices will be closed. This includes the offices in the Municipal Building on Lafayette Street and Quarterpath Recreation Center. 

The city said Waller Mill Park will follow normal operating hours, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

Garbage will be collected on its regular schedule Monday and Tuesday. According to the city, recycling collection will be delayed by one day; Monday recycling collection is rescheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 2, and Tuesday recycling collection is rescheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 3. 

Those with water emergencies after hours, on weekends and holidays should call 757-220-2331. More information can be found at williamsburgva.gov/publicworks. 

Those who need to pay a city bill when offices are closed are encouraged to use the 24-hour bill payment drop box located at the front of the Municipal Building for city transactions. Payments can also be made online. The city cautions drop box payments made on Monday, Sept. 1 will not be posted until Tuesday, Sept. 2. 

York County

The following York County government offices and courts will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, in observance of the Labor Day holiday:

  • County Government Offices and Courts
  • York-Poquoson Social Services
  • Virginia Cooperative Extension
  • York County Libraries
  • Waste Management Center Offices, Drop Off Area & Transfer Station
  • VPPSA Compost Facility

Garbage collections are not affected by the holiday, the county said. Recycling will not be collected on Monday, Sept. 1, and will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week, with routes completed on Saturday, Sept. 6.

Citizens needing assistance are reminded to submit requests via the Customer Service Request Portal — yorkcounty.gov/requests.
