City of Williamsburg Parking Permits Moving to Digital System Launching Aug. 18

WILLIAMSBURG — The City of Williamsburg announced residential and guest parking hangtags and decals will move to a digital system starting Monday, Aug. 18.

According to the city, residents are typically able to purchase permits starting Aug. 1 each year, however, due to the ongoing transition to the new system, 2025-26 permits will not be sold until the new system launches on Aug. 18. Existing permits are valid through Aug. 31.

On Aug. 18, those who live in parking permit zones will purchase residential permits and manage guest passes through the new online system. Starting Sept. 1, the city said parking enforcement will use license plate readers to efficiently verify whether vehicles are registered for a valid permit. Vehicle permits and guest passes are only valid if registered through the online system.

The cost for each permit remains $5.

Information about the change will be mailed to residents who live in parking permit zones, and updates and more information can be found at williamsburgva.gov/parking.
