WILLIAMSBURG — The Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce recently announced “Rockin’ Retro Christmas” as the theme for its highly anticipated 2025 Christmas Parade.

This annual tradition will illuminate the streets of Williamsburg on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 5 p.m.

This year’s theme invites parade units and groups to journey through the decades, choosing their favorite era — from the fabulous ’50s to the neon ’90s — and interpreting it with festive, illuminated decorations. The chamber said spectators can expect a vibrant showcase of Christmastime nostalgia.

With over 18,000 spectators taking in last year’s parade, the GWCC is anticipating another spectacular turnout, noting the event delivers a significant boost to the local economy. Last year, visitor spending during the parade weekend contributed 20% of total spending in the area, with 37% of that visitor spending directed to local businesses, it said. Notably, restaurants saw a 28% increase in spending compared to the prior four weeks, which the chamber said highlights the parade’s positive economic ripple effect.

“The Christmas Parade is more than just a parade; it’s a cornerstone of our community’s holiday celebrations and a vibrant economic engine for our local businesses,” said Lauren Moore, Vice President of Communications & Programming at the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce. “The ‘Rockin Retro Christmas’ theme offers a fantastic opportunity for creativity and a fun way for everyone to connect with their favorite past eras while embracing the festive season. We saw incredible engagement last year, and we’re excited to see the retro interpretations our participants will bring to life this December.”

Registration for parade units will officially open on Monday, July 21, at 9 a.m., exclusively on the Chamber’s website. Sponsorship opportunities will also become available at this time. Due to the overwhelming popularity and quick booking of parade slots each year, the GWCC strongly recommends early registration.

Local marching bands (middle school, high school, and collegiate musical instrument marching bands only) can secure early access by reaching out directly to Lauren Moore, Vice President of Communications & Programming.

To ensure a smooth and safe event, the chamber requires all parade entries to supply a completed application, a completed Form 2 participation waiver, proof of the organization’s liability insurance, and vehicle insurance (if a motorized unit), and attend a mandatory safety meeting. A nominal entry fee applies: Regular Unit Entry is $150, and Nonprofit Organizations are $100. All required articles must be received by Sept. 25 to participate.

More information will be forthcoming on the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce website.
