JAMES CITY COUNTY — Firetruck Duck Drop, the marquee event of Project: FiveFortySeven took place June 20 at Chickahominy Riverfront Park.
JCC’s Parks and Recreation team launched the initial program in 2018 to celebrate the arrival of the summer solstice and the notion that with the longest day of the year comes the longest day of play. JCC’s program, Project: FiveFortySeven, inspired a statewide initiative in 2024, known as Play All Day VA.
The duck drop event was a partnership between James City County Parks and Rec and the James City County Fire Department. Rubber ducks were dumped off the top of a ladder truck. If a duck landed on a target, a person would win a prize.
The event also featured crafts, games, a photo op area and large inflatable ducks.
