TOANO — Meadowlark Song, affectionately known as Lark, and Tate R. McTavish, affectionately known as Tater, have made things official at Dreamcatchers.
Lark, a 26-year-old Welsh pony quarter horse cross mare, and Tater, a 27-year-old Welsh pony gelding, have been inseparable since arriving at Dreamcatchers in 2008. Tater proposed to Lark on Feb 14 and she happily accepted.
Dreamcatchers offers more than just horseback riding at its facility in Toano. The facility offers equine therapy services to children, adults, and families. Those programs rely heavily on donations and sponsorships, and according to Nancy Williams, Dreamcatchers Executive Director, the Lark and Tater story helps bring more community awareness to the Dreamcatchers mission.
“The Lark and Tater storyline is all about increasing community awareness of our mission and our need for financial support. As we head toward their engagement party and wedding in the months to come, we will be sharing all sorts of interesting facts about the unique form of magic that our herd performs with children and adults through therapeutic riding and equine-assisted psychotherapy. We hope to make many new friends along the way, locally and beyond, whether they become new donors, volunteers, or participants,” Williams said.
A summer wedding is planned at Colonial Downs racetrack in New Kent. Colonial Downs has been a longtime supporter of Dreamcatchers equine therapy programs, and said it is excited to host the nuptials of Lark and Tater.
“We are so excited to be apart of such a fun and unique fundraiser. Being able to partner with an organization such as Dreamcatchers that helps so many people through equine assisted services is near and dear to our heart. We are hoping to reach a wide range of donors to take Dreamcatchers yearly fundraiser to new heights,” Alex Sabitini, Director of Sales at Rosie’s Gaming Emporium and Colonial Downs, said.
Williamsburg Jewelers was on hand to help Tater pick out a ring for the occasion. After Lark accepted, the Dreamcatchers team hosted a congratulatory party complete with cupcakes and cake.
Through their engagement and upcoming wedding, Tater and Lark are currently finalizing their registry at Tractor Supply Co.
