Photo Gallery: Wreaths Across America Williamsburg DAR Wreath Laying Ceremony

WILLIAMSBURG — Cedar Grove Cemetery was the backdrop for the Williamsburg Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Wreaths Across America wreath laying event on Dec. 16.

Thanks in part to the warm temperatures, children, adults, veterans, first responders, and government personnel were on hand to decorate more than 500 veterans’ graves with a wreath.

During a short ceremony prior to the laying of wreaths, each branch of service also placed a ceremonial wreath to honor those who served. The Williamsburg DAR and Williamsburg Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) also placed commemorative wreaths.

The Williamsburg event coincided with events happening worldwide for National Wreaths Across America Day. The organization was launched in 2007 and has grown to see wreaths placed at more than 4,000 cemeteries worldwide.

Next year’s event is planned for Dec. 14 at Cedar Grove Cemetery. From now through January 15, if anyone sponsors a wreath for 2024 through the Williamsburg DAR chapter, the group will receive an additional wreath at no cost.
