WILLIAMSBURG — Milling and paving work on portions of Richmond and Bypass roads in the City of Williamsburg will begin this weekend.

Work will begin Sunday, Oct. 23 at 8 p.m., weather permitting, and will require occasional lane closures, the city said.

Paving will occur on:

  • Richmond Road, from the High Street area to New Hope Road.
  • Bypass Road, from Richmond Road to the CSX Bridge.

The majority of the work will be done overnight, starting at 8 p.m. and ending at 6 a.m., to cause the least disruption to traffic and businesses, the city said in an announcement.

Overnight work in the travel lanes is slated to conclude by Friday, Oct. 28, with the remainder of the work, including striping and sidewalk repairs, to occur during regular business hours. All projections are weather permitting.

The city said Lee Hy Paving Corp. was awarded the bid of about $567,000, with Virginia Department of Transportation funding from the State of Good Repair federal aid program and Urban formula funds to be used for the project.
