RICHMOND —William & Mary seniors Alexander Levengood and Diba Nwegbo were named to the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association Preseason All-Conference Team, the league announced on Tuesday.
The Tribe duo was among 13 players to earn preseason honors.
Levengood earned preseason distinction for the second-straight year. He was named to the All-CAA First Team each of the last two seasons and in 2021 was selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region Third Team. He started all 14 matches a season ago and totaled team-highs with seven goals and 17 points. His six goals in CAA play led the league.
Nwegbo garnered All-CAA Second Team honors last season. He totaled 12 points on four goals and four assists in 14 starts a season ago. Nwegbo ranked among the top 10 in the league last year in points per game, while ranking in the top 10 nationally in shot accuracy with 60% of his attempts going on frame.
Joining Levengood and Nwegbo on the preseason team were preseason player of the year Hendrick Hebbeker of Hofstra and fellow Pride players Ryan Carmichael, Mason Tatafu and Wessel Speel as well as Northeastern’s Timothy Ennin and Federico Tellez, Elon’s Kasper Lehm and Jannik Videbaek, Drexel’s Daniel Nesseler and Youri Senden, and UNCW’s Bachir Ndiaye.
The Tribe was picked sixth in the predicted order of finish by vote of the league coaches. Hofstra, which is ranked No. 17 nationally in the preseason United Soccer Coaches National Rankings, was the favorite to win the league. UNCW was No. 2 followed by Elon, Northeastern and Drexel. Monmouth was seventh behind the Tribe with Stony Brook, Delaware and Charleston rounding out the poll.
