YORK COUNTY — A CarFit safety event will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 1 for senior citizens to assess how well they “fit” with their cars.
Created in 2006, CarFit is a free community-based educational program that gives mature drivers the opportunity to see how well they and their vehicle currently fit together by testing its safety and comfort.
The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Brittingham-Midtown Community Center, 570 McLawhorne Drive, Newport News.
A team of professionals will be on-hand at the event to complete a 12-point checklist including the driver’s seat position, the driver’s ability to easily reach the gas and brake pedals and proper adjustments of the mirrors.
The event is sponsored by by Peninsula Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.).
Registration for the event is open until Friday, Aug. 27 and can be done online through the York County Parks and Recreation website.
