The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation is having not one but three Grand Illumination events this year.
The tickets to the Grand Illumination events are free — the events will have limited capacity so ticket reservations are required.
“We hope to celebrate Grand Illumination in a way that includes as many guests as possible while protecting their safety along with that of employees and the community,” said Robert Currie, Colonial Williamsburg director of entertainment, in a prepared statement. “We don’t know what the intervening weeks hold in terms of public-health guidelines, but we look forward to a joyous holiday season followed by a healthy, happy 2021.”
Each of the three Grand Illumination events will have fireworks from the city of Williamsburg over the Governor’s Palace. Click here for more information about the Grand Illumination events.
“A limited number of guests with free Colonial Williamsburg reservations would enjoy a program, including Yuletide music and pyrotechnics from 250 socially-distanced, marked audience areas on the Palace Green, each with a group capacity of 4-6 people,” according to the foundation’s announcement.
The “audience areas” are first come, first serve with access to chairs and the ability to buy beverages and food on site. Those attending the event must wear face coverings during check-in and when not in their “audience areas.”
“These plans are contingent upon the restrictions on public gatherings that are in place at the time,” according to the news release. “More information will be provided closer to the date of the event.”
The Grand Illuminations events are at the Palace Green on Dec. 5, 12 and 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. You can reserve your tickets starting on Oct. 6 by phone.

Parking is available at the Colonial Williamsburg Regional Visitor Center, 101 Visitor Center Drive, where people can walk to the fireworks display, or those with tickets can use the complimentary shuttle.
