Bridges & Tunnels

Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, I-64:

• Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures westbound on Aug. 27 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, I-664:

• Single-lane closures northbound on Aug. 24-26 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Single-lane closures southbound on Aug. 26-27 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

High Rise Bridge, I-64:

• Full closure of I-64 at the High Rise Bridge between I-464 (Exit 291A) and George Washington Highway (Exit 296) on Aug. 21-22 and Aug. 28-29 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Click here for more information.

James River Bridge, Route 17:

• Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures in both directions on Aug. 25-26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures in both directions on Aug. 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Elizabeth River Tunnels (Downtown/Midtown tunnels):

Go to Elizabeth River Tunnels for maintenance schedules on the Downtown Tunnel (I-264), Midtown Tunnel (U.S. 58) and MLK Expressway (Route 164).

I-64 Widening Segment III Project, York County:

• Single-lane closures on I-64 east and west from Route 199 Lightfoot exit (Exit 234) to Route 199/Humelsine Parkway (Exit 242) Aug. 23-27, starting as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Brief, intermittent stoppages on I-64 west at the Queens Creek bridge Aug. 26-27, starting after midnight each night.
• Lane closures under flagger control on Lakeshead Drive at the I-64 overpass intermittently throughout the week of Aug. 24-28, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• A consecutive, long-term full ramp closure and diversion on the existing Route 199 west on-ramp to I-64 west in Lightfoot continues. Westbound traffic on Route 199 follow detour signage in place directing motorists to a new temporary median crossover to access the Route 199 east on-ramp to I-64 west during the closure.
• A consecutive, long-term lane closure under traffic signal control on Colonial Parkway at the I-64 overpass continues.
• A consecutive, long-term full ramp closure on Route 143 Merrimac Trail north to I-64 west continues. Traffic will follow detour signage in place directing motorists to the Route 143 south on-ramp to I-64 west during the closure.

I-64 Southside Widening, High Rise Bridge Expansion:

• Alternating, single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions between South Military Highway (Exit 297) and Greenbrier Parkway (Exit 289):
  • Aug. 24-27, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Aug. 28, from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Aug. 29, from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Aug. 30, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m

I-64 Express Lanes:

• Full closure of I-64 Express Lanes in both directions:
  • Aug. 24 from 9-11:30 a.m.
  • Aug. 25-26 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

I-64, Chesapeake

• Full closure of the on-ramp from Route 17 (George Washington Highway) southbound to I-64 westbound on Aug. 23-25 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64, Norfolk:

• Full closure of the off-ramp from I-64 eastbound to Tidewater Drive southbound (Exit 277A) on Aug. 25 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64/I-264 Interchange Improvements Project, Norfolk/Virginia Beach:

• Alternating, multi-lane closures in both directions on I-264 between Newtown Road (Exit 15) and Witchduck Road (Exit 16) on Aug. 23-28 starting as early as 7 p.m., with three lanes closed no earlier than 9 p.m.
• Ongoing nightly closures and detours on southbound Newtown Road at the I-264 interchange, South Witchduck Road northbound, and Grayson Road at South Witchduck Road. Click here for more information.

I-564, Norfolk:

• On Aug. 25-28 at I-564 between Norfolk Naval Station Gate 3 and Terminal Boulevard:
  • Double-lane closures westbound from 9 a.m. to 4 a.m. the following day.
  • Brief, intermittent stoppages westbound lasting up to 20 minutes between 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.
  • Single-lane closure eastbound from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

I-95, Emporia:

• Full closure of the off-ramp from I-95 northbound to Route 58 westbound (Exit 11B) on Aug. 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Brief traffic stoppages at the intersection of First Colonial Road and Donna Drive on Aug. 23, starting as early as 7 a.m. through 3 p.m. Click here for more information.
