The number of cases of the coronavirus (COVID 19) continue to increase across the state.
On the Peninsula as of Thursday, James City County has 123 positive cases of the coronavirus, Newport News has 64, Hampton has 53, York County has 25, Williamsburg has 16 and Poquoson has 5, according to the Virginia Department of Health’s website.
There are 4,042 positive cases and 109 deaths statewide. At least eight people from the Peninsula Health District and one person from the Hampton Heath District have died from the coronavirus.
The Peninsula Health District covers Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg, James City County and York County. The Hampton Health District covers Hampton.
Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association
The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association has broken down the number of confirmed cases in Virginia hospitals, those on ventilators and other case information. The asterisk (*) means combined positive and pending cases.
As of Thursday, 7 hospitals in Virginia are having trouble either receiving or replenishing their personnel protective equipment in the 72 hours and 2 hospitals have trouble getting or replenishing medical supplies in the same timeframe.

Hampton VA Medical Center
The Hampton VA Medical Center reported Thursday a total of 34 patients, 17 inpatients and 17 outpatients tested positive for the coronavirus, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Public Health website.
Previously, the Hampton VA had 33 patients, 18 inpatients and 15 outpatients, who tested positive for the virus.
Newport News Shipbuilding
Newport News Shipbuilding reported four more employees tested positive for the coronavirus on Thursday.
One employee worked at Building 27, Mid-Yard and was last on company property on April 6.
The second employee worked at Building 4900/SMOF, Bays 5,6,7, Mid-Yard and was last on company property on April 3.
The third individual worked at Building 1865/CMAF East, North Yard and was last on company property on April 2, according to the shipyard’s website.
The fourth employee worked at Building 4677/MOF Bay 3 East, Mid-Yard and was last on company property March 19.
There are now a total of 19 cases at NNS: 8 cases in Off-Yard Offices, 7 in the Mid-Yard, 3 in the North Yard and 1 in the South Yard.
On Wednesday, James City County had 122 positive cases, Newport News had 60, Hampton had 54, York County had 25, Williamsburg had 16 and Poquoson had 4, according to the Virginia Department of Health’s website.
There were 3,645 positive cases and 75 deaths statewide.
