Officials in Hampton are asking for submissions, giving residents a chance to show off their holiday light displays with their new citywide “Holiday Lights Map.”

Residents have until Christmas Eve to register their street address to be shared on the map which can be accessed by spectators for walking or driving holiday light tours until New Year’s Day.

The map is updated daily to include new submissions.

After the city’s marketing team received several submissions in response to last year’s call for photos of decorated homes, Robin McCormick, a spokeswoman for the city, said this year, they thought about ways to share the most decorated neighborhoods with other residents.

“After all, people decorate to share their holiday cheer, so why not help spread that cheer?” she said.

There are 10 addresses listed on the map so far but McCormick said they’re hoping “more people will get into the spirit” and perhaps the practice will become popular enough for it to become a tradition.
