Here are some activities families can enjoy in the area this holiday season

As children prepare for their holiday break, parents in Hampton Roads and the Peninsula are searching for fun activities to keep them entertained.

Throughout the area, a number of events are occurring during the holiday season, from sessions with Santa to crafting holiday ornaments.

Williamsburg

Christmastide in Virginia, Dec. 20-31, at Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown.
Busch Gardens Christmas Town, through Jan. 5.
A Christmas Remembered at Colonial Williamsburg, Dec. 28 at 3:15 p.m. Guests can enjoy hearing about traditions of holidays past as a Nation Builder shares their favorite memories.
Joy in the Morning at Colonial Williamsburg, Dec. 20 at 11:15 a.m., guests can meet with members of the enslaved community to hear music and stories that highlight the African American experience in 18th century Williamsburg.
Community Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Colonial Williamsburg, Dec. 19 at 5 p.m. Guests and families can come together for a reading of “The Night Before Christmas” and learn about the first Christmas tree in the United States.
Christmas in Vienna-Williamsburg presented by the Vienna Boys Choir, Dec. 21 at 7:20 p.m. at the Williamsburg Lodge.
A Big Band Christmas presented by the Williamsburg Classic Swing Orchestra, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kimball Theatre.
A Christmas Story, presented by Huzzah Holiday Movies on the Lawn at Huzzah’s Eatery, Dec. 25 at 6 p.m.
A Crooner’s Christmas, presented by Good Shot Judy, Dec. 19 at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Dec. 22 at 3 p.m. Guests can listen to classic Christmas hits from artist like Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby.

Breakfast in Santa and Mrs. Claus with crafts, songs, and stories at The Grey Goose, Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. until Dec. 23.
Santa’s Wonderland with free games, crafts, and a photo presented Bass Pro Shops on Power Plant Parkway until Dec. 24.
Christmas Palooza ’19, presented by Parents in Need at the Northampton Community Center Dec. 20 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. where “toys will be distributed until the bag is empty.”
Elf Day: Santa’s Lock-in, presented by the Hampton Family YMCA, invites kids ages 6 to 12 for a slumber party featuring crafts, games, and food from Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m to Dec. 21 at 9 a.m.
“Elf the Musical Jr!” presented by the homeschooling program at The American Theatre is playing Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. and Dec. 21 at 1 p.m.
Decorate doughnuts and gingerbread cookies at Baked Bistro, Dec. 22 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Create “Holiday String Lights” with kids ages 7 and up at Painting with a Twist’s Family Day Dec. 23 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
