HAMPTON — This past May, Phoebus Group 2 LLC brought the property on Mellen Street and was in the process of leasing the building to a group of people who wanted to open a distillery, according to a news release from Divaris Real Estate.
But in Phoebus, there was talk of plans for the brewery falling through.
“The last I had heard it wasn’t happening,” said Toni Williams, executive director for the Partnership for a New Phoebus and Business Development coordinator of Phoebus for the city of Hampton’s economic development.
The 3,956-square-foot building is located on 25 South Mallory St. across the street from Bender’s and was previously Epstein’s Pawn Shop.
The group also owns several other properties in Phoebus including 5 East Mellen St. which was previously Kiss My Denim, a clothing shop that recently transitioned to mobile store.
Missy Martinovich, vice president of sales and leasing at Divaris Real Estate, declined to tell WYDaily who the tenant, citing confidentiality with her client.
She said it was a group of people who wanted to open the distillery and once the lease fell through, the partnership dissolved.
Martinovich reached out to one of the previous partners involved in the distillery, who declined to be interviewed for this story.
Future plans for the building could include an authentic Irish pub bar or another distillery, she noted.
Previously, Martinovich said plans for the distillery was “off the table” then retracted her statement later.
“It’s timing,” Martinovich said in regard to the distillery. “It’s definitely not off the table –– it’s not just gonna happen now.”
