Veterans can now access health services through VA Launchpad, a new app available from the Department of Veteran Affairs.
“[It] simplifies and organizes several existing tools and resources into one convenient location,” wrote Shawn Hardenbrook, director of web and mobile solutions at the Veterans Health Administration, in an email.
Hardenbrook said the VA has more than 40 apps available for Android and iPhone users to help veterans manage stress, schedule appointments, connect with their health care provider and other services.
Prior to VA Launchpad, veterans had to download each individual app to access the service they need.
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs website, the VA Launchpad app organizes the prior apps under five categories to make it easier for veterans to find the corresponding app such as “Improve my Mental Health” and “Share My Vital Health Information with My Care Team.”
In addition, new apps added by the VA will automatically appear under the app’s corresponding category.
“We ultimately hope to eliminate as many barriers as possible for Veterans so it’s easier for them to receive the care they have earned,” Hardenbrook said. “This Launchpad app could overcome geographical challenges for a Veteran that lives hours away from the closest VA medical center, or for a transitioning Veteran that is experiencing PTSD and is unable to leave the house for mental health treatment.”
What about veterans who are unable to travel to the VA because of his or her disability? How does this new app help them?
“Veterans who are unavailable to travel to a local VAMC can work with their care team to schedule secure video visits using VA Video Connect telehealth app, which is available on Launchpad,” Terrence Hayes, spokesman for the VA, wrote in an email.
Hayes said veterans can refill prescriptions through the My HeathyeVet, the VA’s patient portal through the app or online.
“Additionally, Veterans will soon be able to order prescriptions through the Rx Refill app, which will be available on VA Launchpad as well,” he added.
