As Jamestown prepares for the influx of politicians and visitors for the 2019 Commemoration events Tuesday, certain roadways will have traffic impacts.

The Virginia Department of Transportation expects there to be increased traffic and delays along Interstate 64, the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry system and other roadways near the event.

Traffic is anticipated to be heaviest starting as early as 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The following roads will be closed to public traffic:

  • The Colonial Parkway from Highway 199 West to Jamestown Island from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Jamestown Road (Highway 31) from 4-H Club Road West to the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Greensprings Road between Jamestown Road and 4-H Club Road from 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • State Route 359 will be closed between 10 am and 1 pm.
  • The Jamestown Island Loop Road will be closed to all traffic all day on July 30.

During those times, there will be no bicycle and pedestrian access to those roads.

However, those times are subject to change. To check on traffic regarding the ferry and updates on operation status, call 800-VA-FERRY (800-823-3779).

Historic Jamestowne at Jamestown Island will be closed until 1 p.m. Tuesday and the Jamestown Settlement will be closed until 2 p.m.

For those participating in public events, there will be certain parking restrictions in the area throughout the day.

All day Tuesday, there will be no self-drive access to Historic Jamestowne. Drivers can use the free satellite at the James River Association, also known as Neck-o-Land, parking from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. There will be a shuttle bringing visitors Jamestown Island between 5 to 10 p.m.

Jamestown Settlement will be open to the public from 2 to 6 p.m. and there will be public parking at the settlement from 2 to 10 p.m.
