The 18-year-old student who allegedly wrote threat in York High School girls bathroom told the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office she “just wanted to see what would happen and never had any people in mind when she wrote it.”
That’s according to a criminal complaint filed in court in connection with the case.
Lyndsey Brooks Scarborough is charged with threats to commit serious bodily harm to persons on school property, a Class 6 felony and intentional damage to a monument less than $1000, a Class 1 misdemeanor.
The York High student allegedly confessed to writing the threat, according to the criminal complaint.
“She was very remorseful and upset with her own actions,” investigators wrote in the complaint.

It is unclear whether Scarborough is suspended from York High School. Katherine Goff, spokeswoman for the York County School Division, said she could not speak about a particular students, including Scarborough, citing privacy laws.
According to the YCSD’s Student Handbook & Conduct Code, Scarborough could face several consequences which range from losing school bus privileges and participation in student activities such as academic or athletic clubs to short-term or full-term suspension.
Scarborough retained her own attorney, Tim Clancy of Clancy & Walter, P.L.L.C. Clancy is a William & Mary alum and a substitute judge for the 9th Circuit.
WYDaily called the law firm to discuss the Scarborough case.
“He’s not able to comment on the case because it’s still pending,” said Jody Patteson, Clancy’s secretary.
WYDaily requested Scarborough’s mug shot from the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail but was unsuccessful.
“We wouldn’t have anything if she was released on her own recognizance,” said jail Sgt. Latisha Watkins of the jail.
It’s unclear why the VPRJ does not have a booking photo of Scarborough since she was arrested for a Class 6 felony. Shelley Ward, spokeswoman for the YPSO, said the sheriff’s office does not have mug shots– the jail shoots mug shots for the sheriff’s office.
