Check this out: Those looking for a job, interns and volunteers will gather soon at Hampton Road’s first LGBTQ Consumer and Career Expo at Old Dominion University’s Ted Constant Center in Norfolk.
The event will be on March 28 – the expo was canceled back in September because of Hurricane Florence.
“This event is way overdue for Hampton Roads. Most metropolitan areas with large LGBTQ populations have been offering similar expos for years,” said Eric Hause, president of OutWire757 and expo producer. “This is our community’s opportunity to demonstrate that Hampton Roads’ businesses and organizations welcome LGBTQ consumers and employees.”
Part consumer expo and part career fair, the expo is open to all members of the LGBTQ and allied community who desire to do business, intern or volunteer or seek employment with the region’s LGBTQ-friendly companies and organizations, organizers said.
More than 40 exhibitors ranging from large corporations to LGBTQ support groups to government agencies are on the roster. Many of the region’s LGBTQ service, support, and social organizations will also be present with membership, internship, and volunteer opportunities.
Presenting sponsors are Dominion Energy, Sentara Healthcare, and Norfolk Southern Corporation.
The expo is a joint production of Hampton Roads Business Outreach, Old Dominion University’s Career Development Services, Old Dominion University’s Safe Space Committee, and OutWire757.com.
The expo will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Big Blue Room at the Ted Constant Center. It is free and open to the public.
