HAMPTON — Police here are asking the public for help in finding who shot a man to death Wednesday morning.
At 9:09 a.m. dispatchers received a call about shots fired in the 2900 block of Shell Road. The call was later upgraded to a shooting, according to the department’s news release.
Officers arrived at the scene and found a man in the parking lot of Roy’s Quick Service II convenience store suffering from at least one gun shot wound, authorities said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Information on the man’s identity was not immediately released.
Carolyn Bowers, spokeswoman for Hampton City Schools, said police asked three schools, Hunter B. Andrews PreK-8 School, Armstrong School for the Arts and Bassete Elementary School, to be put on modified lockdown because of the incident.
“Modified lockdown means instruction continues, doors are locked and the hallways are kept clear,” Bowers said.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have information about the shooting to call the police department 757-727-611 or the Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP. You can also send anonymous tips via text to the Crime Line by texting HAMPTONPDTIPS to 2744637.
