It’s almost the new year, a time for new goals and wild celebrations. It’s also a time for friends and family to come together and reflect on what the future has in store.
Although Williamsburg’s ‘First Night’ was canceled last year, there are still many great ways to celebrate in Williamsburg and beyond. Here is a sampling of what the area has to offer. Don’t forget your goofy glasses.
Bobby BlackHat New Year’s Eve Blues Spectacular
Kimball Theatre, 6:30 p.m.- 10 p.m.
Celebrate 2019 with the best in local blues. Featuring the likes of Bobby Blackhat Band, Sharon Rae North, Little Doors and more, this family-friendly event is perfect for a family of music lovers. And feel free to stroll around Colonial Williamsburg while you’re at it.
While there are no New Year’s specific events planned at Busch Gardens at this time, Christmas Town will be open until 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and remains open through Jan. 5. The beautiful decorations and holiday-centric events may be the perfect way for families to celebrate the new year. What’s more, Santa will be making an appearance.
Flyng Blynd into a brand New Year!
The Cowboy Sports Grill, 9 p.m.- 1 a.m.
With live music from Chesapeake outfit Flyng Blynd, a masquerade ball, discounted drinks and a midnight breakfast bar, this little Yorktown event has it all for a $20 cover charge. Don’t forget the complimentary champagne toast as the countdown commences.
Williamsburg Indoor Sports Complex, 8 p.m.- 8 a.m.
An amazing way for kids and youth to experience the new year. This all-night stay at the WISC features laser tag, climbing, a ninja course and an indoor playground. Snacks and breakfast will be provided. Tickets are $45 and get cheaper with each additional child, and registration ends Sunday, Dec. 30.
Virginia Living Museum, 11 a.m.- 1 p.m.
- At the Virginia Living Museum, welcome the new year within a time frame suitable for the whole family: when the clock strikes noon. Come dressed in your best space costume, and meet some amazing characters from the Star Wars franchise. No additional cost required beyond museum entry.
PG-500 New Year’s Eve Block Party
Amber Ox Public House, begins 7 p.m.
- Love dancing? Love local wines and craft beers? PG-500 New Year’s Eve Block Party hosted by the Amber Ox will include this and more. Live music and drinks under a heated tent with a variety of food options. Drink vouchers and a complimentary champagne toast at the end of the night are included with the ticket. Parking is available but not plentiful so plan accordingly.
Regency Room at the Williamsburg Inn, 9 p.m.- 1 a.m.
- Colonial Williamsburg at its best. This annual celebration hosts a nine course tasting menu, an optional wine pairing, live music, dancing and champagne toast to bring in the new year. This year’s theme is “Rockefeller Room,” so dress appropriately. For those who would rather ring in the new year with a good night’s sleep, an earlier option is available in the form of the Regency New Year’s Eve Dinner from 5 p.m.- 7 p.m.
