Coming soon to a television near you: the story of a local sheriff’s deputy who made a split-second move to save a man from possibly jumping from an overpass.
Deputy James Robinson from the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office will be on A&E at 8 p.m. Thursday for the season premiere of Live PD’s PD Cam.
Robinson was recognized by the sheriff’s office and local media outlets in August after the sheriff’s office released body camera footage of Robinson pulling a man from the edge of an overpass at Route 60.
The incident happened around 7:35 p.m. Aug. 14. Robinson was called to the overpass near Busch Gardens for a report of a man in crisis.
There, Robinson tried to talk to the man and slowly walked in his direction. At one point, the deputy was able to distract the man enough to grab him and pull him from the edge, onto the pavement of the overpass.
The man was then taken to a local hospital.
“Deputy Robinson showed the utmost compassion for the man and reassured him that he still has a lot to live for,” the sheriff’s office posted on its Facebook page the day following the incident.
