Three area men have been arrested after a break-in was captured by a surveillance camera, James City County Police said.

A resident of a home in the 3400 block of Chickahominy Road, who was away at the time but was watching a video surveillance feed, called police Sunday afternoon after witnessing two of the men take tools from a detached garage, according to James City County Police.

Officers arrived at the home at 1:15 p.m., but the men were no longer on the property, police said.

Items taken from the garage — including an air compressor, chain saw, generator, and various power and hand tools valued at more than $2,500 —were found in a pawn shop in Richmond, said police spokeswoman Stephanie Williams.

Alexander Crosby, 25, of Barhamsville, and Joseph Fortune-Dever, 23, of Lanexa, were arrested Monday and charged with breaking and entering, grand larceny, conspiracy to commit grand larceny and larceny with intent to sell.

The investigation revealed that Jason Hertach, 33, drove Crosby and Fortune-Denver to the garage and helpedload the stolen items into his vehicle, Williams said.

Hertach, of Lanexa, was also arrested on Monday and charged with conspiracy to commit grand larceny, larceny with intent to sell and conspiracy to commit breaking and entering.
