What matters most to you in your local library?
The Williamsburg Regional Library is asking residents to weigh in on its future via an online survey and in a series of focus groups this month.
The online survey, which runs from Monday (Aug. 6) through Aug. 17, will cover topics ranging from building location and parking to the types of meeting, study and reading spaces respondents prefer in the library.

The survey will take about 15 minutes to complete and is open to anyone, not just those with active library cards. The information collected from the survey will be shared with local officials to help guide plans for new and renovated library buildings, the library said .
As a follow-up to the survey, the library and Greg Lukmire of RRMM Lukmire Architects — which produced a study earlier this year that found the downtown Williamsburg library is too small and lacks adequate parking, among other flaws — will conduct a series of focus groups with members of the community about the library system’s future. The sessions will be conducted Aug. 22 at the Stryker Center, 412 N. Boundary St., on the following schedule:
Senior citizens: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Members of the business community: Noon to 1 p.m.
Families: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Teens: 3 to 4 p.m.
General public: 7-8 p.m.
“We know that Williamsburg Regional Library is much beloved, and we want to hear from everyone about ways to continue to provide excellent services and spaces in the future,” said Natalie Miller Moore, chairwoman of the library’s Board of Trustees. “Please take the survey and let us know what matters to you.”
The Williamsburg Regional Library system serves more than 85,000 residents of Williamsburg and James City and York counties. It operates the Williamsburg Library, 515 Scotland St., and the James City County Library, 7770 Croaker Road.
