AAA: Virginia gas prices are among lowest in U.S.

As gas prices reach almost $3 a gallon in some states, Virginians continue to enjoy some of the lowest prices in the country, AAA Tidewater Virginia said in its weekly report.

The average price of a gallon of gas this week in Virginia is $2.61. That’s 23 cents less than the national average, AAA said.

However, gas prices in Virginia are 54 cents high than last, AAA said.

July has been a volatile month for gas prices, AAA said. The first half of the month saw the average price nationwide increase from $2.85 to $2.89, but prices have since been falling. The average price nationwide is now $2.84, the lowest mark since May.

Here are the 10 states with the lowest gas prices this week:

Mississippi: $2.54

South Carolina: $2.54

Alabama: $2.58

Louisiana: $2.58

Arkansas: $2.59

Oklahoma: $2.60

Missouri: $2.60

Tennessee: $2.61

Texas: $2.61

Virginia: $2.61
