The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch beginning at 4 p.m. for most of eastern Virginia, including the Williamsburg area.

The watch will last throughout the evening as more showers and thunderstorms are expected, the weather service said. Some of those storms could be severe, with high winds and possibly tornadoes.

As much as 4 inches of rain has already fallen across parts of the region since Thursday, the weather service said.

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding.
