The Godspeed, Jamestown Settlement’s replica of the ship that brought English colonists to Virginia in 1607, and the schooner Alliance, based in Yorktown, are two of many ships that will be part of this weekend’s annual Harborfest in Norfolk.
Both ships will participate in Friday’s Parade of Sail, which features craft from tall ships to to Navy vessels. The parade will sail down the Elizabeth River and begin arriving at noon at Town Point Park in downtown Norfolk.
The Godspeed will be open for public tours at Norfolk’s Waterside marina from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday and noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, according to the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation.
A crew of Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation staff and volunteers will sail the ship, the foundation said.
While the Godspeed is in Norfolk, visitors to Jamestown Settlement will still be able to tour the Godspeed’s sister ships Discovery and the Susan Constant.
The Alliance, which is making its second appearance at the festival, also will be open for deck tours throughout the weekend.
The Alliance’s sister schooner, the Serenity, will remain in Yorktown for cruises throughout the weekend, Yorktown Sailing Charters said.
