YORK — Everyday clean water is provided, solid waste is collected and roads are fixed. But it can be easy to forget the faces behind all of those facets of modern society.

“York County’s Public Works Department is made up of highly trained individuals working to ensure services are maintained at the highest standard,” said Brian K. Woodward, director of York County public works. “There is so much involved in public works that affects our quality of life every day.”

National Public Works Week starts Monday (May 20) as a week to honor those involved in public works. To celebrate, York County is holding a touch-a-truck event from 5 to 8 p.m.  Saturday at the McReynolds Athletic Complex at 412 Sports Way, according to a release from the county.

The event will feature fire trucks, sheriff’s office vehicles, dump trucks, a tractor and the Yorktown Trolley. There will be staff available with the vehicles to show how they operate and answer any questions.

Following touch-a-truck,there will be a showing of the “The Lego Batman Movie” under the stars at the park.
