A local design company has received an award for designs at Saint Bede Catholic Church.

Williamsburg-based GuernseyTingle was honored for the design of the church by the Hampton Roads Association for Commercial Real Estate at the 21st annual Excellence in Development Design Awards Program and Hampton Roads Design Build Institute of America on March 9.

The design firm’s work on the church won an award in two separate categories. The award from the HRACE was in its excellence category and the DBIA award won as project of the year.

GuernseyTingle, Henderson Inc. and Kerns Group Architects partnered with Saint Bede Catholic Church to design and build an education wing, a parish hall and church offices, according to a news release from the design firm.

“Located in the woods far from the main road, access to the church reflects the parish’s spiritual journey,” the release said. “The low massing of two new one-story wings defer to the worship volume as the most important space in the composition and creates a sacred outdoor room which opens to the community.”

As time goes on, GuernseyTingle updates and expands the catholic church’s master plan.
