NORFOLK — Tuesday update: The United States Marshals Service and the Norfolk Police Department arrested a wanted fugitive near Old Dominion University on Tuesday morning.
The arrest came just after 2 a.m., about 12 hours after ODU alerted its student population about the active investigation near West 43rd and Killam Avenue.

Monday update: The United States Marshals Service is trying to apprehend a wanted fugitive near Old Dominion University on Monday.
ODU sent out an alert to community members around 2:30 p.m. Monday which said officials from multiple jurisdictions were conducting an “active investigation” off-campus near 43rd Street and Killam Avenue. The school advised students to stay away from the area until the investigation was over.
“We’re assisting the Marshals in apprehending a wanted fugitive from another jurisdiction,” Norfolk Police Department spokesman Daniel Hudson said, adding that the department has a negotiations team on the scene.
Hudson said that “a few people” have been detained in connection to the Marshals’ investigation, but could not confirm that anyone had been arrested as of 4:30 p.m.
Marshals spokesman Chris Leuer declined to comment on the investigation.

Around 4:26 p.m., the NPD sent out a tweet saying that West 43rd Street and Killam Avenue are closed due to the investigation.
The Norfolk City Bomb Squad pulled up to the scene around 5:45 p.m.
