An investigation into suspected larcenies from vehicles turned into reports of shots fired near the Edgehill Subdivision in York County Friday morning.
Deputies from the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office were on routine patrol in the subdivision, located near Yorktown High and Yorktown Elementary School, when they came across “individuals going through vehicles.” A single gunshot was heard nearby, according to a sheriff’s office alert posted on Facebook.
“Over the next hour another gunshot was heard and then another approximately an hour after that,” read the alert, which was posted around 8 a.m. Friday. “Patrol units flooded the area and are still investigating this incident.”
Police were unsure whether the gunshots were related to suspected larcenies from vehicles.
