A teenage underdog made history Saturday night by beating out three former NASCAR champions and becoming the first woman in the history of South Boston Speedway to take first place.

Macy Causey, a 16 year-old resident of York County, won the South Boston Speedway’s late-model division race, according to a news release.

Causey races with NASCAR’s drive for diversity program, and she is the youngest person to ever participate in the program, the release said.

Racing runs in Causey’s blood as her grandmother Diane Teel was the first woman to ever win a NASCAR-sanctioned race. Teel remains the only Virginian woman to be recognized in the NASCAR Hall of Fame, according to the release.
