Williamsburg Police are searching for a man suspected of defrauding a local business with a fake traveler’s check.
According to Maj. Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department, police responded to Quirks of Art, located in the Shops at High Street, on Wednesday around 12:35 p.m.
Upon arrival, an officer spoke to the manager, who advised police they had received a fake traveler’s check from a customer on Friday around 4 p.m. The suspect was described as a black male, short in height, stocky build with his hair in dreads, Riley said.
The business posted a video of the suspect on their Facebook page in attempt to help police locate the suspect, Riley said.
“This man is passing fake traveler’s checks in the Williamsburg, VA area,” the post read. “He bullied my employee into accepting it and got away with cash and merchandise…This is wrong in so many ways, so we are offering a $500 cash reward for his arrest.”
