
While Labor Day may mean a day off from work and some barbecue to many workers throughout the country, the first Monday in September also means a day without local and federal government services.
Labor Day is Monday, Sept. 5, and the City of Williamsburg, James City County and York County have announced which parks, government offices and buildings will be closed in observance of the public holiday. Those closings are included below.
Labor Day closings for the City of Williamsburg:
- Williamsburg City offices
- Municipal Building on Lafayette Street
- Williamsburg-James City County Courthouse
- Quarterpath Recreation Center
- Williamsburg Regional Libraries (closed both Sunday and Monday, Sept. 4-5)
Garbage collection that usually occurs on Monday and Tuesday will each be delayed by one day.
All city parks will remain open and observant of their normal business hours.
Labor Day closings for James City County:
- County offices
- Courts
- Libraries (closed Sunday and Monday)
- Transfer stations and solid waste and recycling convenience centers
There will be no changes to the county’s curbside recycling schedule.
Labor Day closings for York County:
- County offices
- Courts
- York-Poquoson Social Services
- Public libraries
- VPPSA composting facilities
- Waste Management Center offices
- York-Poquoson Cooperative Extension
Curbside garbage and recycling schedules will not be affected.
