Tickets are now on sale for the Virginia Symphony Orchestra’s 96th season, which will feature performances ranging from Beethoven and Tchaikovsky symphonies to Ella Fitzgerald and Elton John tributes.
The 2016-2017 POPS! season kicks off Sept. 17 with Cirque Musica, “a high-flying, fun-filled, edge-of-your-seat musical adventure” at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk. The Classics season begins Sept. 23 with Russian Fireworks, which will feature performances of Borodin, Stravinsky and Rachmaninoff at the Ferguson Center for the Arts in Newport News.
Two venues in Williamsburg will host a four-concert classics series. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, a “fiendishly challenging bassoon concerto,” will be performed Oct. 27 at Crosswalk Community Church. Phi Beta Kappa Hall will hold the Holiday Brass concert Dec. 15.
The series returns to Crosswalk Community Church Feb. 23 with “Intrigue and Idyll,” which will feature works by Mozart and Brahms. The final show, a celebration of music from British Isles, will take place March 9 at Phi Beta Kappa Hall.
All Williamsburg Classics Series shows begin at 8 p.m. Individual tickets for the series range from $25 to $65, while subscriptions range from $90 to $221.
