VIRGINIA BEACH — The City Council on Tuesday OK’d plans to bring a ninth brewery to the city and the first in Kempsville.
Farmhouse LLC plans to brew new life into the old Wood family farmhouse near the intersection of Kempsville Road and Centerville Turnpike.
They want to add a tasting room, lounge areas, a grand entrance lined with live oaks and an open-air market to the 8.6-acre property at 1805 Kempsville Road, according to city documents.
The new brewery will be called Framhouse Brewing, according to the documents. It will serve only beer on site.
The company was applying for a conditional use permit and zoning changes. It also plans to grow hops and other beer ingredients not far from where the Wood family once grew grain and raised cattle.
The brewery will be available for weddings and parties and feature a garden pergola and fruit orchard, the documents say. Eventually, the brewery could expand to include a restaurant, according to city staff.
