After more than a year of construction, new turn lanes and sidewalks opened earlier this week where News Road intersects Monticello Avenue and Ironbound Road in James City County.
The $2.1 million project included the addition of a new 11-foot-wide lane, curbs and gutters on Ironbound Road; a second right turn lane from News Road onto Ironbound Road; and a second left-turn lane from Monticello Avenue onto News Road.
The handicap ramps at the intersections have been updated to improve accessibility and sidewalks have been reconstructed.
Newport News-based Basic Construction Company began construction in March 2015 and finished the job five days in advance of its scheduled completion date of May 27.
