Without public comment or questions from the James City County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday night, Williamsburg Landing received approval for a special use permit and a proffer amendment to expand its senior living offerings.
The board voted unanimously to approve the changes, which will allow Williamsburg Landing to increase its number of assisted living units on site from the 2008 amended cap of 100 to 131, decrease its number of nursing units from the cap of 100 to 73 and extend the amount of time it has to complete the proposed expansion to three years.
The adjustment results in a net increase of four units, according to the application.
The proposed project will not move forward, however, until Williamsburg Landing’s Board of Directors gives its final approval, a decision that is expected before the end of February.
During the Dec. 2 Planning Commission meeting, Ben Puckett, COO of Williamsburg Landing, said the amendment “reflects [their] latest thinking of what the right mix of units is for the community,” noting an emphasis on serving residents through the least restrictive offerings – independent and assisted living – before they need to transition to nursing care.
