A home décor retailer is preparing to celebrate the grand opening of its new store in Monticello Marketplace.
Kirkland’s, a nationwide retailer with more than 320 stores in 35 states, opened its new James City County location on July 28 and will host a grand opening celebration Saturday.
The store, which normally opens at 10 a.m., will open an hour early and festivities will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The grand opening will also feature free hors d’oeuvres and refreshments provided by Aromas World Specialty Coffees, Bakery & Cafe, as well as various giveaways.
Attendees can enter to win a $50 gift card to the store and the first 50 customers in the door will receive a free gift bag with samples, coupons and a $10 gift card.
Kirkland’s decided to relocate to Monticello Marketplace after outgrowing its old space in the Premium Outlets.
Torey Wack, a senior assistant at the new store, said the Premium Outlets tried to entice the company to stay, but Kirkland’s declined to further promote its goal of becoming a more independent go-to shopping location.
She said some shoppers have told her they were surprised by the move, unaware of the move.
“People think we went out of business at the outlets. I guess our marketing department didn’t do too hot of a job advertising for that,” Wack joked. “We actually grew and needed a bigger space.”
The new store sits at more than 7,500 square feet, a number that doubles the older store at the Premium Outlets. With stores also located in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, the new Williamsburg location is offering a central location for shoppers.
