Rain showers could put a damper on this weekend’s Independence Day festivities.
Meteorologists are predicting a chance for storms throughout the holiday weekend.
The National Weather Service is predicting a 70 percent chance for rain showers Friday night, with a 40 percent chance for thunderstorms on the Fourth of July that will continue into the evening and into Sunday.
Showers are likely after 2 p.m. Friday, with a potential quarter- to half-inch of rain. The National Weather Service is calling for a chance of showers after 2 a.m. Saturday morning.
Chances of showers and thunderstorms are predicted to continue through holiday.
Temperatures are expected to hover in the low- to mid-80s during the day through the weekend, and dip to the low-70s in the evening.
The Virginia Department of Transportation has lifted most road closures around the state for interstates and other major roads from noon Thursday to noon Monday.
