The last of three Norfolk men accused of stealing thousands of dollars in clothing from a Williamsburg Premium Outlets store had charges against him dropped Thursday.
Jordan Douglas and Roman Celestand, both 21, and Gary Lee Drew Jr., 22, were accused of using “Grip Snip” wire cutters to cut sensors from about $2,100 of Polo Ralph Lauren clothing, stuffing the clothes into shopping bags and walking out of the store without paying in June.
Each of the three men had charges against them dropped because a Polo Ralph Lauren sales associate was unable to identify the three suspects, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael Gaten said.
Douglas, who was the last of the three to be arrested in November, was facing one felony count of grand larceny, one felony count of conspiracy to commit grand larceny and one felony count of possession of burglary tools. All of those charges were dropped Thursday in Williamsburg-James City County District Court.
Celestand and Drew, who were arrested July 18 and 27, respectively, received the same charges, which were later dropped.
James City County Police said witnesses observed the men getting into a rented vehicle described as a silver Hyundai, which police discovered had been rented from Enterprise Rent-a-Car. Investigators were able to track the car using the license plate description provided by the witnesses.
James City County investigators waited with Norfolk Police Department officers at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Norfolk at the date and time the rental was to be returned, according to a police report.
