YPSO: Two Charged With Assault Over Missing Cash

A woman and a teenage girl related to her were both arrested Jan. 26 after getting into a fight over money, authorities said.

Several people were gathered in the 2800 block of Denbigh Boulevard on Jan. 26 to “discuss a small amount of cash that was missing” from a woman’s vehicle, said Master Deputy Mike Russell with the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.

Russell said the discussion turned into an escalated argument, and the woman whose cash was missing told deputies Keona C. Turner, 21, assaulted her.

The woman then used pepper spray on Turner, Russell said. She told authorities she was then assaulted again by Turner and a 17-year-old girl who was with her.

Both Turner and the 17-year-old, whose name cannot be released due to her age, were charged with assault and battery by mob and petit larceny.

JCC Rec Center, Wanner Stadium Broken Into

Police are investigating a break-in report at the James City County Recreation Center on Longhill Road.

Officers arrived at the Rec Center on Monday to find two concession stands had been broken into, Stephanie Williams with the James City County Police Department said. Police found damage to the side doors that had been kicked in.

Nothing was missing from the concessions stands, Williams said. A fire extinguisher was also found to have been discharged in one of the buildings.

Williams said the investigation is ongoing.

On the same day, officers received a report that a storage shed at the Sanford B. Wanner stadium has been broken into.

A black metal “pop-up tackle maker” and a yellow step over dummy, which have a total value of about $1,190, were missing from the shed, Williams said. A lock on the door of the shed was also missing.

Teen Accused of Hit-and-Run in James City County

A 17-year-old girl will face a judge after being accused of hitting another car and fleeing the scene.

Authorities said the girl, whose name cannot be released due to her age, was driving a gray Chevy Malibu when she struck a car that was exiting the parking lot of the Olde Towne Square shopping center and turning left onto Olde Towne Road.

The woman in the car that was struck told police the girl hit her rear driver’s side door and then fled.

She then followed the teenager’s car until it stopped at the parking lot of the Colonies at Williamsburg vacation resort, and four teenagers exited the car, fleeing on foot, a police report states.

The woman took photos of the teenagers as they fled and showed the photos to police, who located two females near the sales office of the resort complex.

One of the girls admitted to driving the vehicle, Williams said.

A petition asking the judge to charge the 17-year-old with hit-and-run was filed.

Caregiver Accused of Stealing Thousands of Silver from Elderly Man

Officers received a call Jan. 20 alerting them that the silver items, valued at $11,000, were missing from the 84-year-old man’s home in Little Town Quarter.

An investigation showed one of the father’s caregivers, 49-year-old Terry Inez Cooke, had pawned several pieces of silver to various pawn shops in the area, a police report states.

The items stolen included forks, spoons and steak knives, police said. About $2,000 worth of items have been recovered at this time.

A police spokesperson noted the father has had two caregivers in his home every day since August.

Cooke, a Newport News resident, now faces eight felony counts of grand larceny and eight felony counts of larceny with intent to sell.
