A woman who used a steak knife to stab a man in a Williamsburg hotel in May faces up to five years in prison.
Sandra Holder Reece, 59, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Williamsburg-James City County Circuit Court to unlawful wounding, which was amended from malicious wounding as part of the plea agreement.
Judge Michael McGinty has agreed to withhold a finding on the charge until Reece’s sentencing May 7.
Reece’s attorney Gordon Klugh said he would be asking the judge to reduce her felony unlawful wounding charge to misdemeanor assault at the sentencing.
Williamsburg Police arrested Reece on May 1 after receiving a report of a stabbing at the Country Hearth Inn on Capitol landing Road at around 11:30 p.m.
The man Reece stabbed testified at Reece’s preliminary hearing in August he used to be close friends with Reece, who lived at the hotel in a room a few doors down from his.
The man said Reece knocked on his door the night of the incident and began asking “Why do you keep hurting me?” before taking out a kitchen knife and stabbing him four times.
The victim said he was stabbed twice in a bicep, once in the lower chest and once on a lower forearm.
Police found him sitting on the stairs outside of his hotel room with blood on both arms, Williamsburg-James City County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael Gaten said Wednesday.
Authorities said both the victim and Reece were intoxicated at the time. Gaten said Reece was “unsteady on her feet.”
